We can be busy busy

So this past week and this week has and will be busy for us. We leave for Utah the end of the week. We can't wait. It is so exciting to finally meet our precious neice Abigail and to see my sister in-law and her husband. I've been trying to get stuff done this week when I am not working. I have a list and it just keeps getting longer. Haha!! I've been painting somethings for baby Abigail so I am enjoying that hobby. I will have them done so we can bring them with us. My next things to paint are for baby Joseph.

Tommy is still feeling a little sicky. His sore throat is gone but he has a stuffy nose still. I decided that when we had stuffy noses, that maybe I should buy some shower soother tablets so I did. I heard they work great. I used some a few days while I took and a shower and Tommy used one. All you do is drop it in the shower and breath in. It is suppose to clear our noses. I think it worked but Tommy said it worked for a second and then his nose was stuffy again. Haha!! So we are hoping Tommy will get better by the end of the week. I am better now.

Lately we have been having temperatures in the 70's in the afternoon. It was so beautiful but now they are calling for thunderstorms. Oh great!! Just what I like. I don't care for them too much. Tommy doesn't mind them.

Tommy worked 12 hour shifts last week and was suppose to work Saturday but it ended up not happening, which was nice because I was off as well. He still has to work the 12 hour shifts this week. He only works three days this week and then he will be off for six days. I will only be off for four.

I worked Sunday. It actually wasn't too bad. I wasn't use to working it but I had to do it. I am usually off weekends but some people were on vacation so I had to fill in their shift. I am scheduled to work Easter day. We aren't too thrilled about that but what are we suppose to do you know? I do get some extra $$ that day so that is good. I am off the day before so we can celebrate Easter a day early or have two days to celebrate. We are not sure if we are going to cook for Easter dinner or if we are going to a friends house or having them come over something. Tommy wants to grill. Fish sounds really good. He would like to grill lamb or something. So we will see.

Friday night I went out with a friend to dinner. It was nice. We ate at Applebees. Her husband had to work and Tommy wasn't home from work yet so since I was feeling better and wanted to get out of the house, dinner sounded nice.

So the other day we wanted to clip Duke's nails. He kept moving and so we thought it would be a better idea for the vet to clip them. We are encouraged now to start so he gets use to it but we don't want to hurt him.

We will post more pics after we get back from our trip.

Duke went to Vet, Tommy worked some overnights this week, I am sick with a bad cold, etc.

We are told to post more pics of Duke, so here are some more.

Me trying to get him to look but then look my eyes are closed. Hey I am sick what do you expect? Haha!!

So last Saturday, I took Duke to the vet since Tommy had to work. Oh he cried and howled when the Dr. gave him his shot in the back. The poor puppy. The Dr. said wow, I can hear the basset hound in him and I was like yes it is definitely noticible. I held him and told him it was ok. I don't do well with shots, but this time I was ok, and I didn't see any blood so that was good. He is pretty much a healthy puppy the only thing that is not so good is the fact he has Guardia. Like I mentioned in the last blog, he may have had it since his feces aren't solid. It tested positive so now he has to get a powdery medicine mixed in his food once a day for a few days. Not only him, but Haley too. The vet wants all the animals treated just in case they have it as well. I noticed Haley is having a hard time eating her food right away especially if the powder medicine is in it. Eventually she will eat it but it takes her awhile. I end up leaving the bowl in the room after I go to work so she can eat it on her own. The cats get this nasty white, thick, liquid in a syringe that we squirt in their mouths once daily for a few days. The cats absolutely hate it. The vet told me they would not like it and may spit it out. So the first night Tommy squirted the medicine in their mouth, the cats basically spit half of it out. It went on the door and carpet. It pretty much stained the carpet. That was interesting and we had to clean it all up. So then after that we learned to hold them down when we give the medicine. They did better but not the best. We wrap them up in a towel so they don't claw us trying to get loose. Thanks Mom J. for the advice on that. They still make funny faces and spit some out but I think they are learning to just deal with it. Haha!! What is so creepy about this parasite, is that it can be passed on to the other pets and even humans, so we are being so careful when we have to clean up after Duke when he makes potty in the house. We also wash our hands a lot. Duke is doing so much better in his kennel. We leave him in it at night and during the day. We let him out and have him locked up in the kitchen with a baby gate so the cats can go in and out if they want. We keep Haley in there with him so she can keep Duke company and they can play. He actually uses the puppy pads and holds his potty if he is in the kennel until we take him outside. This is so great that he is learning so quick. The receptionist at the vet doesn't suggest puppy pads since she sees that puppies need to learn to go outside rather than inside but we see it as it is better for him to go on those than the floor or carpet. We plan on taking them away slowly to the point where he uses just one and waits to go outside to go potty. We are also told that we need to start clipping his nails so he gets use to it. At the vet, they gave me a free bag of dog food for Duke. It is called IVET and it is only sold by vets. We mixed it with the Kibbles and Bits food we were giving him and we notice he likes it so we will see about keeping that kind. The only thing is it is very expensive as it is sold at the vet. Duke goes back in three weeks for another checkup and for more vaccinations.

So since Sunday night, Tommy was working the overnight shift. He had to because there was someone who couldn't work it who normally does and Tommy was the only Staff Sergeant that could. It definitely isn't fun when he has to work that shift especially when he is told the same day he is due in. He has been so exhausted all week. He was told today that in one or two days he will be back on day shift, but while he was sleeping today, he got a phone call from one of the guys he works with and said he needs to be on day shift tomorrow. So now he needs to sleep tonight to work tomorrow. Now that is rough on him. Especially because all week, there is an exercise at work and he has to work 12 hour shifts so he went in at 11 p.m. and worked until 11 a.m. or later. He didn't always get off on time and so he wasn't able to just come home and go to bed. He would have to do a few other things before he could do that and walk the dogs. By the time he got to sleep it would be around 1 p.m. and he would only sleep until 5ish. He took a nap right before work but still that wasn't enough sleep for him. He would buy energy drinks on the way to work and they seemed to keep him awake along with just being up and moving around staying busy. I missed him at night but since I have been sick with a cold, I've been on medication and Nyquil sure does put me to sleep and keeps me sleeping. Haha!! I was definitely out of it and I still am.

Yea so I've been sick with a bad cold since Sat night. It all started when we had gone to a friends house Sat night just to say hi and hang out for a little bit. I felt fine over there. It was the first time I met them but Tommy works with the guy. That guy is married and has a two year old child. They seem like really nice people. We talked, played Rock Band, which is so fun. Wish we had that. I don't do so well, Tommy does better but I will get there. It takes time and practice. We plan to hang out with them again. So we end up staying until almost 10:30. A little later than I anticipated on since I had to get up early the next morning and go to work. We only live about half a mile from them so it wasn't too far of a drive. But finally we get home, take care of the pets, and get ready for bed. Finally we go to bed a little after 10:30. Then I wake up in the night coughing and have a real bad headache. I was too tired to get up and take medicine so I just toughed it out and went back to sleep. Then at 4:30 a.m. I woke back up and started coughing again. It hurt my throat. By then I had a nasty sore throat. It hurt just swallowing. By the time Sunday morning rolled around and my alarm went off, I knew I couldn't make it to work. I told Tommy just how sick I felt and he said yea you would be miserable at work so don't go. You are also coughing like crazy so that's not good. So I called out. I don't think they were too happy about it but what am I suppose to do?? I was miserably sick and do they want me to get everyone else sick. So I was in bed all day. Tommy took care of me meanwhile he had to switch his schedule to work that night.

He was miserable as well. He didn't look forward to going to work 11 p.m. and that was suppose to be his only day off after working 12 days straight. He didn't have a day off. He even worked Saturday, which totally made things hard. On top of that I would have worked Sunday. Wow, what a week. It has been rough. We are looking so forward to the weekend, yea I have to work Sunday but I am off Monday, and the following week we go on vacation.

See people don't see just what Tommy has to go through while in the service. He deals with a lot and labor laws do not affect him. That is why he can work 12 or 16 days straight without a day off and work 12 or more hours in a shift before he can go home. It is really hard. It totally makes him exhausted and I try to cook dinners and take care of the house and pets. Sometimes it is hard when I am the only one that can do it but I understand. Him getting his sleep and him not being around to help is the way it is.

I also deal with a lot of stress at work. I try not to let it get to me but it is hard especially when I am sick and at work. I just hope Tommy doesn't get sick. That would be so terrible.

Today for St. Patrick's Day, I was told to wear green, so I wore a nice green shirt. Haha!! Tommy and I ordered pizza and cheesy bread sticks from Pizza Hut for dinner. Didn't do anything too exciting.

This weekend coming up, besides me working, I plan to go find a pretty skirt or dress to wear at baby Abigail's blessing event.

So hopefully the weeks to come will be better.

Tommy is going to fix things in another work shop since he is so great, Tommy fixed our washing machine, Duke is going to the vet

So as I recently mentioned on here Tommy does so great with his job that he was told he will be working over at the old shop he was working at to help the airmen below his rank to make their shop better and organized. Apparently it is so bad that they are telling Tommy, his assistant shop chief and one other guy to go over there and make things better. He will be working 12 hours shifts 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. for a week and then he will be working there for a couple months after working regular 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. This is a huge thing they are having him do especially because everyone has to listen to Tommy as he is a staff sergeant they look up to him for information and just Tommy will be there boss. There will be a big inspection that will be go on soon so that is why this is a big deal for things to improve in that shop. The long hours will make Tommy very tired but I plan to cook nice easy meals since I get off a lot earlier than him.

Not only does Tommy have to fix a shop, he also recently fixed our washing machine. Apparently it stopped working and made funny noises and leaked water in the laundry room because one of my socks got stuck in the propeller. Haha!! So we didn't do laundry all week and now I am finally getting caught up on it all. Fun Fun!!

Duke goes to the vet tomorrow morning. Wish us good luck that everything goes ok for him. He is getting a check up and some vaccinations. I don't do well with the vaccinations but there is really nothing I can do about that. I have to be strong. Tommy can't go with me. He was able to at first but now he has to go in earlier. Duke may need medicine as he may have a parasite problem, which explains why his belly is puffed out and his stool is not the way it should be so we will see. I will be off tomorrow just like today but then I will have to work awhile after that before our vacation. We will need to get Duke puppy food.

Relay for Life Fundraiser

So Tommy decided he wanted to participate in Relay for Life. He has a mandatory meeting tonight that discusses it and what is expected of him as he raises money for cancer research Him and some other people he knows are participating in it toward the end of April on a weekend. They will be walking around the town track and raise as much money as they can. I am tired tonight so I am not going to the meeting. They get to choose a time they want to do it on that weekend. This will look great on Tommy's EPR sheet (his evaluation and volunteer record) for the Air Force. I think it is nice for him to want to do this. I may join in and do it too. I will have to see.

All my hard work actually pays off at my job and all Tommy's hard work pays off at his job as well!!

So all my hard work and doing the best I can do at my job, actually pays off. I am shocked because of the way the company I work for is. You see, I'll explain this better. When I first started working for Walgreens, and was there for a short while I began to realize that no matter how hard I worked, and did the best I could do, it really didn't mean anything to the management and it didn't show them that I was not one of the slackers or non hard working people. Others felt the same way. I always do the best I can do and more. Now that I have been there for long while, I have gotten better management over time, which makes things better. I didn't have the best management. But not everywhere has "the best management." So in the past month, I have received two employee "great job" achievement award gift cards for doing exactly that "great job". I don't like to act as if I am putting myself on a pedistol, but I do want to be acknowledged for all my hard work you know and who doesn't? Last month, I did outstanding customer service and sold the most donations to American Heart Association. With that all said and done I can wear jeans on truck day, which is tomorrow.

My husband and I both are very hard workers. Tommy has been asked to be in a special shop doing the special job that he is doing because of all his hard work. He is a wonderful leader and boss. He looks out for his troops and he has been told he "makes the world go round." He works through lunch to get ahead on things and ends up staying late sometimes to finsh projects that are really important. Yea I miss him and yea he doesn't get off work exactly at four in the afternoon, so most of the time I start dinner and wait until he gets home but I understand. With him in the military, it is very important as a staff sergeant that he does those things. People have told Tommy that they enjoy working with him and having him as their boss. That makes both Tommy and I very happy.

Update on my Aunt

I was told my aunt may be moved to a rehabilitation center so she can learn how to walk and move again since she has been in the hospital for two and half months. I imagine all her muscles are weak and stiff. As far as her health goes, she is getting better. Not 100% better but a little better. Lets just hope and pray she gets fully better. We are glad she is doing better than she was.

Our eight week old puppy named Duke

We got a puppy yay!! Here is Duke.
Look how cute he is!! The brown on his face stands out and makes him all cute!
We are crazy yes yes we know!! haha! We have reasons why we got him. 1. We love animals especially dogs and cats. 2. There were three puppies left from the litter that one of the girls I work with had and we wanted one. 3. We felt it was ok to have another dog. 4. We decided it would be an three year anniversary gift to each other.

See what happened was one of the girls I work with her fiance had dogs that had ten puppies. So yesterday at work, she brought them to the parking lot. Everyone saw, including me. I went out there to see them, I held one but knew if I stayed much longer I would have gotten one. I was going to surprise Tommy with one, by bringing one home or bringing him there to see them but they left before I got off and I was told only one was left and thought he or she was taken already. So I came home and told Tommy about it, he said now sure I guess we can have him or her. Haha!! I called up to see how many they actually had left and turned out they had three left. We wanted the boy one. They all are basset hound/boxer mixes. He may have part beagle in him because his face and body looks like a beagle but we aren't sure yet. They are eight weeks old. He was born Jan 5, 2009. So about a month before Haley's birthday. We got all the stuff for him that he needs now.

Our cats and Haley get along great with him. They chase him around and sniff him. Haley was all excited and wanted to play. He is of course kind of scared and crys a lot and howls but that is what is expected. He is a basset hound and we can tell it is in him. We couldn't decided on a name at first but settled on Duke. He was free! But there is no such thing as a free pet when you have to buy everything to go with it.
Him in Haley's old kennel so we didn't have to buy a new one. She stays with the cats now.

He decided to get out of the kennel!

He saw his reflection in the mirror! As you can see Boots is next to the door watching

Playing with Tommy

Eating his dinner as Toby watches

Aww them both looking
He is so soft!

Aww!

He got a bath and so he was tired. He was taking a nap

Duke will be spoiled just like Haley, Boots and Toby. We love our pets. This is our little family
